tangerine wins iF and Good Design awards for Hyundai Solati Moving studio

Hyundai Solati Moving Studio, designed by tangerine in collaboration with Hyundai Creative Works, has won both an IF Design Award 2018, Germany, and a Good Design Award 2018, US.

In 2016, South Korean mobility company Hyundai, in conjunction with SM Entertainment, approached tangerine to help them to design and build a new mobility entertainment platform. The result was the creation of the Solati Moving Studio, a moving broadcast studio fully integrated within a Hyundai Solati van.

tangerine used its considerable design and engineering experience from creating innovative small-space solutions for aviation, rail, and automotive interiors, to balance the requirements of housing all of the audio-visual equipment and systems required to deliver a live studio recording environment, as well as providing a premium space for SM Entertainments’ celebrity guests to perform, relax and be interviewed on-the-go.

During the design development, tangerine’s designers consulted specialist film and sound technicians, who had previously worked on the BBC’s Top Gear and Channel 4’s Gogglebox television programmes, to inform the selection and positioning of the equipment in order to deliver a high-performance studio within a greatly compacted space.

“tangerine is helping Hyundai to challenge the meaning of mobility, to move beyond transportation and become a provider of experience and entertainment”, says Young Choo, Head of tangerine’s Seoul Studio and Project Lead.

The Hyundai Solati Moving Studio design was awarded the highly respected IF Design Award in the product category and the Good Design Award in the competitive transportation category.
