Al Areen Holding receives “Masterplan of the Year” award

March 17, 2024. Al Areen Holding, a prominent player in the real estate industry, recently received the highly coveted “Masterplan of the Year” award at the 2024 Entrepreneur Middle East – Real Estate Leadership Awards.

 

The event, held at the Habtoor Palace in Dubai, brought together prominent industry leaders, influencers and visionaries who are shaping the future of the Middle East’s real estate landscape.

Recognising excellence and innovation in the industry, the event serves as a platform to acknowledge exceptional projects and individuals. The Masterplan of the Year award highlights Al Areen Holding’s ability to redefine urban spaces through integrated planning, design, and execution. This innovative masterplan showcases a harmonious blend of modern infrastructure, sustainable practices and vibrant community engagement, all while staying true to the region’s rich cultural heritage.

tangerine was tasked with creating the overall vision and user experience blueprint for residents and visitors within the overall masterplan, defining the vision for the user experience for residents and visitors across nearly 2 million square meters of mixed-use land in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The site can accommodate 25,000 people, and comprises 16 major clusters including commercial offices, retail units, restaurants, hotels, health and education facilitates and a range of residential communities.

 “Using a range of service design tools including a cultural immersion, ethnography, user and stakeholder interviews, user journey mapping and user mode definition, we created a vision for Al Areen, ‘A Wellbeing Destination for Families, Immersed in Nature and Grounded in Bahraini Culture,” says Geraint Edwards, Chief Growth Officer at tangerine.

Four design key principles influenced the design of the masterplan: Resilience, Wellbeing, Iconic and Sustainable. These shaped tangerine’s refinement of the experience and the creation of a framework for the components of the destination and the key user modes.

Key User modes were used to define and describe the key activities that Al Areen users would interact with and then guide the key components of the masterplan. These were identified as being:

A sense of Belonging – Be part of a like-minded community that calls Al Areen ‘a haven’

A place to Restore – Take a pause from the hectic routine

A place to Engage – Bond with others and actively participate in the environment

A place to Indulge – Treat the self with exceptional pleasures that provide fulfilment

A place to Excite – Have a memorable and joyful time that energises

tangerine then gave colour to the fundamental Al Areen experiences included in the masterplan through the creation of artist impressions to communicate the look and feel and experience offering. With this recognition, Al Areen Holding further solidifies its position as a leader in the real estate industry, setting new benchmarks for excellence and innovation.
