Creating future proofed solutions is always a challenge when designing new train sets for all suppliers to the rail industry. Every region of the world throws up new challenges for rail designers.
At a recent Roundtable hosted by tangerine at Middle East Rail 17, we discussed with Emirate transit authorities and suppliers to the ME region how driverless vehicles are creating a different set of issues for their passengers. For instance, anticipating the automated dwell times at stations is difficult during crush times, as etiquette goes out the window and passengers throw themselves onto busy trains as soon as the doors open!
The key challenge for designers today is to conceive relevant and meaningful changes to both the on-board and station experience – creating seamless, comfortable journeys for all passenger groups, from the start of their journeys right through to arrival at their destination.
